Anxiety disorders

Anxiety disorders are a group of mental health conditions characterized by excessive and persistent feelings of anxiety, fear, or worry. These disorders can take many forms, including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and specific phobias.

Symptoms may include physical sensations such as a rapid heartbeat, sweating, trembling, and difficulty breathing, as well as mental symptoms such as excessive worry, trouble concentrating, and avoidance of certain situations.

Anxiety disorders can have a significant impact on daily life and may lead to problems such as difficulty functioning at work or school, social isolation, and even depression.

Treatment for anxiety disorders typically includes a combination of therapy, medication, and lifestyle changes, such as exercise and stress management techniques.

Types of anxiety disorders:

There are several types of anxiety disorders, including:

1. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): characterized by excessive, unrealistic worry and tension, even if there is little or nothing to provoke the anxiety.

2. Panic Disorder: characterized by recurrent, unexpected panic attacks (sudden feelings of terror), as well as persistent concern about having another attack.

3. Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD): also known as social phobia, characterized by excessive self-consciousness and fear of social or performance situations.

4. Specific Phobia: characterized by intense fear and avoidance of specific objects or situations, such as heights or flying.

5. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): characterized by recurring, unwanted thoughts or obsessions, and repetitive behaviours or compulsions, that the person feels driven to perform.

These are the common types, but there are more sub-categories and some of the above mentioned disorders can have sub-type like performance anxiety.
